International Travel to Brazil Lures Wichita State and USC and USC Men’s Basketball
This August you won’t find Wichita State’s Men’s Basketball Team in Kansas or USC’s Men’s Team in LA. Both teams have made International Travel plans with Sport Tours International to visit Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where great basketball competition, fabulous weather and breathtaking scenery await.
The Shockers of Wichita State, fresh off their 2011 NIT Championship run, depart for South America’s largest country on August 7. The Shox and Head Coach Gregg Marshall will play 5 games in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro with the headline matchup being a game versus the Brazilian National Team in Sao Paulo on August 12.
Wichita State is visiting Brazil as it prepares to host the two biggest sporting events in the world: the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics. “We are eagerly anticipating our trip”, commented Marshall, “this is big for our program. Our players are jacked”.
USC, after finishing last season with an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, travels later in August and will, also, play in Brazil’s two largest cities. The Trojans competition will include some of the country’s best club teams – Flamengo from Rio and Paulistino from Sao Paulo. “We’re excited to travel with Sport Tours to Brazil”, said Head Coach Kevin O’Neill. “We were looking for great games and top competition and Brazil delivers, along with providing a fabulous opportunity for our players to experience a culture different than our own”.
This marks the third consecutive year Sport Tours International has organized trips for NCAA Men’s Division I teams to Brazil. Bradley University and Wofford College played in Brazil in August 2009 and 2010, respectively. “We are hoping to interest a Division I Women’s team for the summer of 2012”, Lee Frederick, President of Sport Tours, stated. “The basketball competition and the beauty of the country are second to none for International Travel. Brazil is a special destination and more and more teams are discovering this unique travel opportunity. Sport Tours is proud to be able to bring teams to Brazil”.
