The University of Mississippi posted a perfect 3-0 mark and remained undefeated on the season en route to a tournament title in the 20th annual San Juan Shootout held Dec. 19-22, 2007 in San Juan, PR. The Rebels bested a strong field which included nationally ranked Clemson, DePaul, LaSalle and the host school, UPR-Mayaguez.
LaSalle and UPR-Mayaguez opened play the first night in a high-scoring affair. The Explorers posted a season-high in points en route to a 117-86 victory over the host Tarzans. LU put eight different players in double figures led by Jerrell Williams' 20 points and 11 rebounds.
UPR opened play the next day and dropped a 90-73 decision to #15 Clemson. The Tigers, who won the event in 2005, improved to 9-0 on the season thanks to Terrence Oglesby's and KC Rivers' 21 points apiece. In the day's second contest Ole Miss remained unbeaten with a 69-63 come-from-behind victory over DePaul. The Rebels fell down early but used a late second half run and 21 points from Dwayne Curtis to post the victory.
Clemson and DePaul opened up play on the event's third day with the nationally-ranked Tigers posting a strong second half showing to come back and beat DePaul 90-74. The tough-luck Blue Demons led for the second straight day at the half but couldn't hold on down the stretch. Draelon Burns of DePaul led all scorers with 27 points while Trever Booker led six Clemson players in double figures with 18 points and 10 boards. In Friday's nightcap Ole Miss ran out to a 13-point halftime lead and posted and held off a late LaSalle run to post an 84-77 victory. Eniel Polynice led Ole Miss with 20 points while Chris Warren added 19 points and nine assists. Rodney Green paced LaSalle with 15 points and eight rebounds.
The tournament's final day began when DePaul bested LaSalle 93-88 in the tournament's second highest scoring game. The Blue Demons led 50-45 at the half and held on to improve to 3-7 on the season. Karron Clarke scored 25 points for DePaul while Draelon Burns added 20. Darnell Harris led the Explorers with 21 points, who fell to 4-6 on the season. In the Shootout's final game and eventual Championship game Ole Miss handed #15 Clemson its first loss of the year with an 85-82 victory. The Rebels remained perfect on the season with an 11-0 mark while Clemson fell to 10-1. Terrence Oglesby again led the Tigers with 20 points and five assists while Chris Warren and Dwayne Curtis scored 19 apiece for the Rebels.
