Costa Rica Teams Give Away Shoes - 8/18/2009

ThereĀ is more than just basketball and some sightseeing for the three Division I teams spending time in Costa Rica this August. For the IUPUI and Bethune Cookman men's teams and the Bowling Green women's teams the opportunity to help out those in need in the Central American country just couldn't be passed up.

Spearheaded by IUPUI head coach Ron Hunter and his Samaritan's Feet program, the three teams, Sport Tours International and the shoe company Crocs all worked together to give away shoes to needy children who live in and around San Jose, Costa Rica. The three teams interacted with over 350 kids at a local school in San Jose while giving away free shoes to those who needed them. The shoes, which were donated as a part of the Crocs Cares program, were much needed for many of the Costa Rican youth and the opportunity to meet and interact with the American Division I players was an added bonus.

In addition to the shoe event, all three teams will play games versus local Costa Rican club teams while also embarking on excursions to the jungle, zip line canopy tours and whitewater rafting trips.
